About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) reports to the Nurse Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the PCT performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. This role provides nursing support in the care of Phase 2 post anesthesia and observation patients. These are medical-surgical patients who are recovered from anesthesia and are anticipated to be discharged to home post-op day zero or post-op day one. Surgical Observation also cares for preoperative medical-surgical patients who plan to have surgery within the next 24 hours.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required for Patient Care Technician I.
  • For Patient Care Technician II: High school diploma/GED and ONE of the following requirements must be met: Associate or Bachelor's degree, At least 1 year work experience in a .6 FTE PCT I position at MUSC CHS, 1 year of experience in a healthcare facility, Active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited institution, Active enrollment in a healthcare related field from an accredited institution, Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited institution.
  • Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire.
