This role provides direct patient care, assisting with procedures and daily living activities, as well as physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies. The technician will report changes in patient status to the RN and perform core nursing assistant responsibilities. Additionally, they will be proficient in at least four of the following tasks: phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, point of care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter, or IV catheter removal. The position also involves ensuring equipment functions properly, communicating effectively with other departments, maintaining professional relationships, and contributing to unit activities like responding to call lights and transporting patients. The technician is expected to receive feedback constructively, identify learning needs, and actively improve their skills. They will also provide patient and family instruction under the RN's direction and may apply, monitor, and remove restraints. Adherence to all policies, procedures, and safety standards, including standard precautions, is mandatory. The role requires documenting in the medical record, performing assigned work efficiently, and completing clerical functions as needed. Advanced skills such as phlebotomy/venipuncture, peripheral IV removal, indwelling Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia, 12-lead EKG, and NG tube clamping/removal may also be required based on department needs.
