This position provides patient care, assisting with procedures and daily living activities. The Patient Care Technician Senior will also assist with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies, and provide feedback to the RN regarding patient care and changes in patient status. The role involves performing core nursing assistant responsibilities, including blood glucose monitoring, taking vital signs, input/output tracking, specimen collection, and Foley care. Additionally, they will perform at least four of the following tasks: phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, point of care testing, bladder scan, straight catheterization, or IV catheter removal. The position also requires ensuring equipment malfunctions are reported, establishing effective communication with other departments, and maintaining professional relationships. Universal unit activities such as responding to call lights, passing meals, and transporting patients are also part of the role. The technician is expected to constructively receive feedback, identify learning needs, and take action to improve performance. They will provide patient and family instruction under the RN's direction and may apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints. Clear communication, understanding of cultural diversity, and support for workplace safety are essential. Adherence to all policies, procedures, and safety standards, including standard precautions, is mandatory. The role involves suggesting and supporting departmental changes, taking responsibility for assignments, and participating in quality initiatives. Documentation in the medical record, timely completion of assigned work, and clerical functions are also required. Core competencies include ADLs, point of care testing, vital signs, I&O, telemetry monitoring, HAC & PSI indicators, simple dressings, restraint management, bladder scans, specimen collection, and intra-hospital patient transportation. Advanced skills may include phlebotomy/venipuncture, peripheral IV removal, indwelling Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia interpretation, 12-lead EKG, and NG tube clamping/removal.
