About The Position

This Per Diem Patient Care Technician role is part of the Resource Team, serving the Evanston and Skokie hospital locations. The position involves working evening and night shifts, with a commitment level that can range from Per Diem Level 1 (32-72 hours) to Per Diem Level 3 (111-144 hours) per 6-week schedule. The hourly pay rate is between $18.84 and $27.32, determined by factors such as candidate expertise and years of experience. The role requires the technician to work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) to deliver patient care, primarily on the Antepartum unit. Responsibilities include assisting with various patient care tasks, implementing care plans, and contributing to a positive patient experience and safety outcomes. The position also requires the use of appropriate patient movement equipment and may involve assisting with lifting up to 50 pounds in urgent situations.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited certified nursing assistant (CNA) training course preferred or Completion of at least one nursing clinical rotation in medical or surgical nursing preferred
  • Current BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider issued by American Heart Association
  • Inpatient PCT medical/surgical experience

Responsibilities

  • Work under the supervision of a RN to deliver patient care on the Antepartum unit
  • Assist with Vital Signs (includes manual blood pressure), 12-Lead EKG, Bladder Ultrasound, Foley catheter and IV adapter removal, sterile specimen collection, bathing, beds, ambulating, turning, hourly rounding, blood glucose, feeding, admitting patients to room, preparing patients for discharge and any other duties delegated by the Registered Nurse
  • Assist with the implementation of a patient specific care plan
  • Participate in other activities which are essential to the functioning of the patient care unit
  • Positively contributing to safety outcomes and promoting high quality patient experience
  • When in the clinical environment, must utilize appropriate patient movement equipment for patient-lifting and transfers when the transfer is a non-emergency situation.
  • In an urgent event, may need to assist with lifting up to 50 pounds.
