Functions as part of the dialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines and assisting in maintaining a safe and clean working environment. Supports the organization's commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI Activities, including patient satisfaction and process improvement. This role involves patient education, direct patient care during dialysis treatments, including monitoring, intervention, and discontinuation. It also includes staff-related duties such as participating in recruitment, clinical orientation, and functioning as a preceptor for new clinical staff. The position requires maintaining technical aspects of dialysis equipment and record-keeping, as well as supporting infection control practices. Additionally, it involves transitional care for newly admitted patients and assisting with coordination of their dialysis modality choice.
