The Patient Care Technician will assist patients with personal care needs including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, use of bedpan or urinal, positioning, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, etc. under the supervision of a RN/LPN. This role also involves assisting with exercising and ambulating patients, utilizing correct body mechanics, and maintaining the physical safety and comfort of patients. The technician will obtain patient vital signs, input and output checks, and accu-checks, reporting abnormalities to the nurse. As directed by RN/LPN, they will perform procedures such as EKGs, perineal care, emptying of foley bags, application of restraints, and backrubs. They will also collect specimens and document basic patient care into the electronic medical record. Additional duties include assisting nursing and clerical staff with patient admissions, discharges, transfers, ambulation, transportation, and observation, as well as answering unit phones and directing calls. The role may also involve performing duties of an Observation Assistant as needed.
