About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Texas Health Fort Worth provides essential patient care and assistance, working collaboratively with nurses to support the plan of care and meet patient/family preferences. This role is critical within Texas Health Fort Worth, an 851-bed, Magnet-designated, full-service hospital established in 1930, serving Fort Worth and Tarrant County. The hospital is renowned for advanced care in cardiovascular services, high-risk obstetrics, gynecology, neurosciences, orthopedics, emergency medicine, and features certified programs in various specialties, including a kidney transplant program. It is also a Joint Commission-certified Comprehensive Cardiac Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and a Level I Trauma Center, committed to improving community health.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent
  • Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency (CLIAFE)
  • Completion of a PCT Training Program (TX CNA, NHA, NAHP, NCCT, accredited community college program or a THR approved program)
  • EMT - Emergency Medical Technician (Military experience with medical training equivalent to EMT-B)
  • Nursing student who has completed fundamentals or holds a foreign nurse degree program
  • 1 year of applicable experience in lieu of an active and approved certification
  • BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
  • CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training Maintained Annually (within 90 Days of hire)
  • Possesses organizational skills to function in a fast-paced work environment
  • Possesses positive interpersonal skills
  • Possesses good verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care and assistance based on the plan of care and patient/family preferences.
  • Collects and reports patient data, supports admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
  • Performs technical procedures safely and documents care accurately.
  • Collaborates with nurses to adapt care for diverse populations and cultural needs.
  • Maintains a clean, safe environment and proactively meets patient and visitor needs.
  • Demonstrates teamwork, flexibility, and effective communication across disciplines.
  • Participates in process improvement, adheres to safety goals, and advocates for patients.
