About The Position

Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the IMCU Department. This is a full-time Night shift (12-hr shift) position in Charlottesville, VA. The Intermediate Care Unit - Cornell 1 is the Telemetry/Stroke Unit at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital, providing care for patients with various cardiac and neurological conditions. This 30-bed unit has a patient-to-staff ratio of 1:5 and is supported by additional patient care technicians, educators, and a strong leadership team. The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, supports daily living activities, monitors vital signs, assists with mobility and ambulation, performs phlebotomy, point-of-care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal. They also comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse, observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions, and document findings accurately, reporting any changes to the nurse or medical staff.

Requirements

  • HS – High School Grad or Equivalent
  • One of the following programs: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or current student enrolled in a clinical program having completed at least one semester of a (RN, LPN, RT or PT) or current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.
  • AHA BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
