About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) implements, monitors and documents patient care depending on established criteria, under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. He/She has the responsibility of handling and serving patients in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort. Performance is limited to those acts in which training has been received. This role also fulfills the role of receptionist/secretary for the nursing unit, actively participating in positive interactions with others. Performs clerical duties required for the nursing unit. Assists in maintaining a safe, clean patient care environment and actively and consistently contributes to nursing department operations and communication, behaving in a manner consistent with the mission and objective of Hale County Hospital.

Requirements

  • Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Adaptable to changing work schedules and patient needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
  • One year experience as PCT/CNA and one-year clerical experience preferred.
  • CPR or BLS certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performing or assisting the patient to complete personal hygiene needs.
  • Monitoring vital signs as adumbrated in the care plan and reporting any variation from normal readings to licensed personnel.
  • Responsible for preparing patient rooms and transporting patients to and from various departments.
  • Serves as unit receptionist greeting individuals and handling incoming and outgoing telephone calls, utilizing knowledge of the department. Relays pertinent information to appropriate person(s) and maintains patient and employee confidentiality.
  • Self-motivated, maintaining skills, and providing clerical support to the nursing department including preparing and maintaining accurate client records, transcribing physician orders, and documenting pertinent data and accurately and neatly while safeguarding confidential information.
  • Maintains adequate supplies and forms pertinent to the department.
  • Keeping the dietary department informed of the patient’s name, room number, and diet type. Also, of any changes, admissions, or discharges that may occur during their shift.
  • Submits in writing any requests to the maintenance department for repair work on the unit.
  • Responsible for attending staff meetings as evidenced by 70% attendance to ensure that necessary information is received.
  • Attends in-services and mandatory meetings.
  • Adheres to the dress code, attendance, and all other company policies and procedures.
