About The Position

Assists the nursing staff with the daily routine and functions of the nursing unit, including transport, discharge, personal hygiene, meal assistance, and responding to patient needs. Conducts hourly patient rounds and reports observations to the appropriate personnel. Performs clerical duties to support unit coordination and patient care, such as updating the bed status board, managing rental beds, tracking work orders, and notifying physician consults. Provides clerical direction to new staff and students. Confers with departments regarding patient scheduling and prepares/updates patient records. Answers phones, interacts with ancillary departments, pages physicians, and completes transfers. Utilizes Meditech electronic health record, assists with admissions, and accurately collects/enters patient information. Focuses on patient safety, including fall and restraint reduction. Obtains vital signs, weight, height, intake/output, specimens, blood glucose, and EKGs. Addresses patient comfort and pain management, and demonstrates concern for patient and family satisfaction. Maintains and restocks unit supplies and patient room items. Adheres to nursing standards and follows established charge procedures. Screens individuals entering buildings as directed. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent within one year from date of hire.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience in data entry or typing preferred.
  • Previous clerical experience preferred.
  • Legible handwriting.
  • Through education, experience, and/or training, the individual is qualified to work with infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Fluent knowledge of medical terminology.

Nice To Haves

  • EMT, Certified Nursing or Medical Assistant preferred.

  • Maintains unit and nursing station supplies, including completion of requisitions.
  • Responsible for inventory and restocking of direct and indirect care items.
  • Maintains standards of nursing care within the guidelines of the nursing department.
  • Follows established charge procedure for patient charge items.
  • Screens patients, visitors, employees, and others upon entrance into buildings, as directed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
