About The Position

This position assists nursing staff by performing clerical and patient care duties under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN). The role involves maintaining and updating patient records in a timely and orderly manner, greeting patients and visitors with a friendly approach, and providing direct patient care. The Patient Care Technician (PCT) will work in the Orthopedic Surgery - Med Surg unit at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited high school or GED equivalency examination.
Completed Fundamentals of Nursing course or a Nursing Assistant Program.
Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
Experience as a patient care technician in an acute care setting or nursing home.
Experience with direct patient care (vitals and ADL job duties) in an assisted living facility.
Current Roper St. Francis teammate.
Current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
Currently enrolled in or a graduate of an Associates or Bachelor’s degree (in any field).
Must successfully complete the RSF PCT Training Program upon hire (required for some educational/experience pathways).
Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Certification Card.
Knowledge of clerical procedures and medical terminology.
Skill in English grammar and spelling.
Neat, legible handwriting.
Ability to file and maintain patient records (both paper and electronic), files and reports.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to communicate clearly.
Knowledge of patient care tasks and techniques to provide nursing care.
Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures to administer patient care.

Nice To Haves

Current certification as a Nursing Assistant preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform clerical and patient care duties under the direction of an RN.
Maintain and update patient records in a timely, orderly manner.
Acknowledge and greet customers (patients, families, visitors) upon arrival to the unit with an enthusiastic and friendly approach.
Provide direct patient care, including taking vital signs and assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
Report changes in the patient's condition to the professional nurse.
Maintain patient care records.
Use office equipment such as multi-line telephones, computer terminals, and printers.
Assist in establishing a safe working environment by knowing common safety hazards and precautions.
