Functions as part of the dialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. This role is responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines, assisting in maintaining a safe and clean working environment, and supporting the organization's commitment to quality enhancement and continuous quality improvement activities. The position also involves patient education, monitoring patient response to dialysis, and performing various treatment-related tasks. Additionally, the role participates in staff recruitment, provides clinical orientation and training, and functions as a preceptor for new clinical staff. It also involves maintaining environmental integrity, accurate record-keeping, and supporting infection control practices. For the Transitional Care Unit, the PCT follows newly admitted patients through their first four weeks of dialysis, reinforcing education and coordinating transitional care.
