About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs basic patient care services and supports activities within outpatient services. Patient Care Technicians are multi-skilled to provide expanded services under the direct supervision of a licensed clinical professional. Responsible for serving as the main point of contact for patients and families navigating through the pre-admission to post discharge phase in the surgical and procedural areas at Sanford Health.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum of six months’ experience preferred.
  • Experience in a clinic setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of healthcare, anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and medical equipment/supplies preferred.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
  • Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers required or within the first 60 days of employment.
  • If working in North Dakota (ND) and not a Certified Nursing Assistant, must be registered as a Nursing Assistant (NA) through the North Dakota Department of Health within four months from the date of initial employment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient care services including height, weight, blood pressure, visual acuity, color vision screening, drug screens, and point of care urinalysis.
  • Handle reception and clerical tasks.
  • Prepare patient treatment areas for use.
  • Prepare and clean medical equipment.
  • Dispose of biomedical waste in accordance with standards and policy.
  • Clean and maintain patient care area(s) or treatment rooms.
  • Monitor stock levels of medical inventory and restock or reorder as needed.
  • Work patient registries and identify opportunities to improve patient care.
  • Serve as an information relay between staff and families regarding start and end times.
  • Arrange consults with physicians.
  • Help families navigate through the building as indicated.
  • Document clearly.
  • Solve problems.
  • Establish priorities.
  • Work independently with self-direction.

Benefits

  • Salary Range: 17.50 - 23.00
