Provides care to patients on an assigned nursing unit under the direction of a Clinical Nurse Manager. This role involves effective communication with patients, families, visitors, and healthcare team members, while adhering to standard and special precautions, including the use of personal protective equipment. The Patient Care Technician assists with patient hygiene, elimination needs, nutritional support, and ambulation. They are responsible for setting up patient rooms for new admissions, assisting RNs with patient admissions (including those with COVID-19), and accurately documenting vital signs and point-of-care blood glucose monitoring in the electronic medical record (EMR). The role also includes cleaning equipment, performing rounding and repositioning, communicating patient status to the RN, performing 12-lead ECGs, organizing and stocking unit supplies, maintaining patient privacy, managing Foley and colostomy bags, and assisting with patient transfers. The technician is also responsible for daily quality controls for Accu-Check, emptying trash, and providing hand-off reports to the oncoming shift.
