About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. Our Neurosurgery unit is a Med/Surg unit specializing in Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Neurovascular patients. We work within a fast-paced environment, with various learning opportunities for nursing students, or anyone looking to refine/gain CNA skills. Shifts: 12 hr nights, full time. Every other weekend and every other holiday. The Patient Care Technician (PCT) serves as caregiver to the patient during the scheduled work period. The Patient Care Technician provides patient-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned patient under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

Requirements

• High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required.
• Knowledge of healthcare, anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and medical equipment/supplies preferred.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
• Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
• If working in North Dakota (ND) and not a Certified Nursing Assistant, must be on the North Dakota Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry upon completion of training/competency validation or a maximum of four months from the date of initial employment.
• If working in Wisconsin, must be on the Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry with current work eligibility or a student nurse, currently enrolled at a school approved by the Wisconsin Board of Nursing, who has completed a basic nursing course and 16 hours of clinical experience.
• Strong communication, customer service, multi-tasking, and organizational skills are needed on a daily basis.

Responsibilities

• Records vital statistics and other basic health information.
• Administers basic health care and medical treatments; provides assistance with basic daily living activities, including dressing/undressing, bathing, grooming, toileting, etc., meal preparation and dining needs, emotional and spiritual needs, and laundry.
• Cleans patient living areas or treatment rooms.
• Collects non-invasive biological specimens from patient.
• Prepares patient treatment areas for use; prepares and cleans medical equipment; disposes of biomedical waste in accordance with standards and policy.
• Performs clerical work related to scheduling and documenting patient healthcare.
• When necessary for safe provision of care, employee will provide one on one care to patients.
