About The Position

With commitment to patient and family centered care, Patient Care Technician II (PCT II) provides designated direct and indirect patient care activities under the direction and supervision of licensed clinical team members. Building upon foundational patient care skills, PCT II demonstrates increased clinical competency, completion of required certifications, and the ability to perform a broader range of patient care activities in support of diverse patient populations at the TJUH campus, part of Jefferson Health. The PCT II applies critical thinking within defined scope, contributes to safe and efficient unit operations, and supports the care team through enhanced technical skills and experience, while continuing to address the physiological, emotional, and social needs of patients and families.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, patient care needs and their role in interprofessional team.
  • Ability to complete delegated tasks within scope of role.
  • Knowledge of personal care and hygiene necessary for quality of life, and ability to apply this knowledge to patients in need on a daily basis.
  • Knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment, and the ability to take steps to reduce these risks.
  • Knowledge of how to convey respect and collaborate with each patient, family and/or designated care partner in care.
  • Knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and the ability to convey respect and connect effectively.
  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques, ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. Uses the language of partnership with patients and families, engaging them in their health and health care.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support AHA - American Heart Association

Responsibilities

  • Communicates effectively with the interprofessional team, patient, family, and designated care partners to support care delivery and patient flow.
  • Performs designated direct and indirect patient care activities under the direction of licensed clinical team members, demonstrating increased clinical competency and efficiency in completing assigned responsibilities.
  • Performs a broader range of patient care activities and technical skills as aligned with training, certification, and unit needs, within defined scope of role.
  • Applies critical thinking to recognize and communicate changes in patient condition, escalating concerns appropriately to licensed clinical team members.
  • Supports patient safety initiatives by adhering to established protocols, identifying potential risks, and contributing to a safe patient care environment.
  • Assists with coordination of care activities and patient throughput, supporting efficient unit operations.
  • Maintains required certifications and competencies, demonstrating ongoing skill development and adherence to best practices.
  • Provides guidance and support to new or less experienced team members in day-to-day tasks as appropriate, without formal supervisory responsibility.
  • Assists in maintaining supplies, equipment, and readiness of the clinical environment to support safe and efficient care delivery.
  • May be assigned the role of a virtual safety associate or other support roles based on unit or campus needs.
