About The Position

The Patient Care Technician II provides non-licensed direct patient care, clerical support, patient transport, and orderly services in designated perioperative areas. Working under the direction of licensed nursing staff, this role assists in the delivery of safe, timely, and compassionate patient care while supporting efficient unit operations. The Patient Care Technician II interacts closely with patients, families, nursing staff, physicians, anesthesia teams, and support departments. This role supports recovery processes, patient safety, unit flow, and environmental readiness through hands-on patient care, observation, transport, clerical assistance, and supply management.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
  • 6 months experience in a healthcare related field Required
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required
  • Ability to provide safe, compassionate direct patient care under supervision.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology and vital sign parameters.
  • Ability to recognize and promptly report abnormal findings to licensed staff.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, empathy, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced perioperative environment.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to document in electronic health records.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct non-licensed patient care in collaboration with licensed personnel, demonstrating appropriate skills and judgment when assisting with ambulation, mobilization, positioning, transfers, and comfort measures.
  • Obtains, records, and reports delegated patient data, including vital signs, oxygen saturation, weights, intake and output, finger stick blood glucose checks, and 12 lead EKGs per competency and direction.
  • Supports post-procedure and post-anesthesia recovery, including patient observation, comfort measures, timely response to call lights, and prompt communication of changes in patient condition to licensed nursing staff.
  • Safely transports patients between PACU, perioperative areas, inpatient units, diagnostic departments, and discharge locations following established safety and handoff procedures.
  • Functions as an orderly within the PACU and perioperative areas, assisting with unit flow, stretcher management, patient positioning, room readiness, and throughput support.
  • Performs clerical and reception duties as needed, including answering phones, directing calls, supporting communication flow, operating office equipment, and assisting the healthcare team with unit operations.
  • Maintains required documentation, supplies, and competencies, including timely electronic health record documentation, inventory management, and maintenance of current certifications and training.
  • Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization.
  • May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
