About The Position

The Patient Care Technician II (Pediatric) reports to the Nurse Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the PCT II (Pediatric) performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. This role requires the ability to understand and implement detailed instructions for therapeutic procedures and make accurate physical observations of patients. Basic computer skills are necessary. The position may involve working irregular hours, rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends. Within two months of hire, employees must pass online course modules, phlebotomy training, and skills validation for basic and advanced skills, requiring an 80% passing rate on each test within two attempts. Trainees are responsible for reliable attendance and maintaining BLS and annual competencies. Failure to adhere to MUHA policies may result in disciplinary action, including termination. Certification in Basic Life Support is required within two weeks of hire and must be maintained thereafter.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency with at least one year of patient care experience in a health care facility; or a Certified Nursing Assistant; or successful completion of a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant course at an accredited institution or equivalent training; or EMT or Paramedic certification; or a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of therapeutic procedures.
  • Ability to make accurate physical observation of patients.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire.
  • Maintain Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
  • At least 1 year work experience in a .6fte PCT I position at MUSC CHS or 1 year of patient care work experience in a health care facility; or a college degree, or active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited institution; or active enrollment in a healthcare related field from an accredited institution; or a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant, or equivalent training.
