About The Position

Under the direct supervision of licensed personnel, the Patient Care Technician II, through communication, requisitioning, and management of supplies and equipment, coordinates the activities of the nursing staff, patient, physician, other hospital departments, and visitors. The position performs general receptionist and clerical duties to facilitate the efficient functioning of the nursing unit.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
  • 6 months Experience in a healthcare related field or actively enrolled in a pre-nursing or nursing program and pursuing a nursing degree.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required
  • Non-violent crisis intervention (CPI) within 90 Days Required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to accurately screen and triage acute patients.
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of acceptable ranges of blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturation and EKG.
  • Ability to document and utilize electronic health record applications.
  • Ability to deal appropriately with confidential information.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with ambulating and mobilization of patients
  • Taking and recording the patient’s vital signs (i.e., BP, Temperature, Pulse, Respirations, & O2 sat)
  • Weighing patients
  • Assisting with personal hygiene / AM Care (i.e., Oral Care, Bathing the patient, etc.)
  • Assisting with bedpans and toileting
  • Catheter care
  • Empty drains
  • Turning bedridden patients or patients that need assistance with turning
  • Linen changes
  • Assisting with meal preparation
  • Feeding patients
  • I&O
  • Light cleaning and organizing of patients room
  • Answering call lights
  • Relaying pertinent information to the nurse
  • Performing responsibilities/duties required by the department/division, as defined in the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of the client is addressed including sitting with patients and sitting with Baker acted patients
  • Maintaining up-to-date and accurate documentation of data collected
  • Assuming clerical duties necessary to assist the healthcare team to provide patient care
  • Receiving and directing phone calls and serving as the receptionist for the department
  • Maintaining supplies/inventory for department
  • Using computer system to locate orders, retrieves patient information, calls STAT and cancels orders, and prints daily census
  • Following "Down Time" procedures
  • Operating order communication system
  • Filing reports and necessary forms in patient charts
  • Communicating and assisting with transferring and discharging patients including notifying appropriate area
  • Promoting effective working relations and working effectively as part of a department/unit to facility meeting goals and objectives
