About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) I performs basic patient care activities under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. The role includes identifying and responding to abnormal findings, escalating changes in a patient’s condition to the nurse, and assisting with activities of daily living. The PCT supports patient elimination, hygiene, comfort, safety, nutrition, and activity while practicing patient- and family-centered care. The position typically reports to the Unit Manager. Memorial Hermann provides all necessary training on PCT Core Competencies.

Requirements

Basic Life Support certification issued by the American Heart Association within 90 days of employment.
No experience required.

Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care for assigned patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
Measure vital signs before and after treatment, as applicable, and visually monitor patients’ conditions.
Assist with hygiene, toileting, mobility, nutrition, bathing, and other activities of daily living as needed.
Document information accurately and promptly, and report unusual changes or findings to the nurse.
Help maintain a safe and clean working environment.
Follow safety rules and work practices, help prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, participate in departmental safety programs, and adhere to organizational policies and procedures.
Develop knowledge of patient care and hospital processes and integrate into unit-based teams.
Participate in professional governance opportunities as appropriate.
Ensure safe care for patients, staff, and visitors while meeting standards for time management, supply management, productivity, and quality of service.
Meet mandatory and continuing education and skills competency requirements, support department goals, and pursue professional growth and development.
Create compassionate and personalized experiences and model Memorial Hermann’s service standards for safe, caring, personalized, and efficient experiences.
Perform other duties as assigned.
