About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is responsible for assisting in patient care, documentation, and supply management across all hospital units and departments, including the Float/Flex Pool. Working under the supervision of the charge nurse, clinical manager, and/or director, the PCT ensures the unit is supplied, clean, and organized. They may also perform office assistant duties such as answering telephones, responding to patient inquiries within their capabilities, and performing data entry and collection. The PCT adheres to all policies and procedures of Northern Arizona Healthcare, performs or assists with procedures within their scope of practice, and collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary team. This role may involve caring for patients of all age groups, from infants to geriatrics. This position is strictly on-site.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current, unrestricted CNA or LNA license in the State of Arizona
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card application number (required upon hire if no Arizona LNA license)
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card (required within 90 days of hire if no Arizona LNA license)
  • Demonstrates understanding of the Unit's Standards of Care and Practice and Administrative Policies, and ability to locate Policy and Procedures manual.
  • Demonstrates and utilizes the guidelines of care and practice via the nursing process, in accordance with Arizona State Board of Nursing Laws and Regulations, performing at a fully competent level.
  • Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool.
  • Attends all safety-related training programs.
  • Performs work in a safe manner.
  • Monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
  • Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies.
  • Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.
  • Understanding of computers and competence in using computers and basic software programs.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains department cleanliness, including following procedures for clean-up after treatments.
  • Assists with patient transfers, including those with weight-bearing restrictions or motor impairments, and transfers to/from wheelchairs.
  • Assists patients with donning/doffing compression garments.
  • Observes patient skin integrity and reports any issues to supervising clinicians.
  • May assist with the removal of catheters and IVs, and perform phlebotomy within the scope of practice.
  • Prioritizes and problem-solves to address changes in patient status/condition.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate staffing for quality patient care.
  • Quickly and accurately assesses patient care needs.
  • Serves as a resource, assists other staff in patient care, and aids physicians with order entry into the EMR.
  • Assists with dressing removal as assigned by a supervising clinician.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living, such as toileting.
  • Assists patients with mobility under the direction of a supervising clinician, including therapeutic exercises.
  • Follows safety guidelines for isolation precautions and policies/procedures related to bloodborne pathogens.
  • Answers, evaluates, and prioritizes incoming administrative telephone calls, communicating effectively to determine caller needs.
  • Assists in the orientation and training of new PCT staff.
  • Works to ensure best practices among colleagues.
  • Maintains unit documents.
  • Maintains and copies charts as requested.
  • Assists the charge nurse with clerical duties.
  • Documents objective patient data and the care provided.
  • Documents reporting of abnormal findings to the supervising clinician.
