About The Position
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) in the Emergency Department (ED) plays a crucial role in supporting medical staff by performing essential clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision. This position is vital for ensuring the smooth operation of the ED and contributing to the overall patient care plan. The PCT will assist doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in delivering compassionate and efficient care to patients in a fast-paced environment. This role requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team. The PCT will be responsible for a variety of tasks, from direct patient assistance to maintaining the readiness of the department's resources.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
Nice To Haves
- Completion of technician education in a specific area and specialty e.g. EMT-Basic EMT-Paramedic or PCT (patient care technician) preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assist doctors, nurses, and other medical staff in implementing each patient’s plan of care in the Emergency Department by performing clinical procedures and other tasks within scope of practice.
- Assist with observation of patients gathering data and identifying patient care needs.
- Document patient information accurately in medical records.
- Prepare patients for examination and treatment.
- Collects specimens such as blood, urine, and stool samples for laboratory testing.
- Set up and operate medical equipment needed for patient care.
- Help with transportation of patients within the hospital.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization within the Emergency Department, adhering to infection control standards.
- Replenish supplies and ensure necessary equipment is readily available.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
