About The Position

The PCT provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the RN or licensed independent practitioner.

Requirements

  • AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent
  • Completion of state recognized CNA program; or Completion of first semester junior year in an accredited BSN program dependent upon school curriculum.
  • VCU/MCV BSN students - completion of sophomore year, Nursing 201, 202, 261.
  • Accredited Associate Degree and Diploma programs - completion of first year or a minimum of two semesters of basic nursing courses.
  • Specialty areas e.g. pediatrics, women`s health, psychiatry may require completion of a clinical rotation in that area; or Completion of EMT program; or Completion of medical assistant program; or One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years; or One (1) year of care partner or equivalent work experience within the last three (3) years; or One (1) year of military corpsman experience within the last three (3) years

Responsibilities

  • Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure.
  • Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor: time/schedule changes; legal issues; directed care which deviates from standard; and identify educational resources to meet developmental needs.
  • Job duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.
