About The Position

Highland Hospital, a 261-bed community teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Rochester Medical Center, is recruiting experienced Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) to join their team. The PCT 2 will support and provide direct patient care on the nursing unit, playing an integral role in the physical and emotional comfort of patients and their families. This role involves providing direct patient care and completing other tasks to support patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. The position requires a 4 to 5-week orientation period where candidates must be available to work any day and any shift. Staff are assigned to various units including Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE)/Alternate Level of Care (ALC), General Medicine, Complex Care, Medical/Surgical Oncology, Palliative Care, Progressive Care, General Surgery Bariatrics, Medical/Surgical Total Joint/Ortho, Medical/Surgical/Neuro/Ortho, Emergency Department/ED Observation Unit, Medical/Surgical Observation Unit, PACU, and Same Day Surgery.

Requirements

  • GED or High School Diploma required.
  • At least 1 year of healthcare experience providing direct personal care and interaction with patients in an acute care OR long term care setting required.

Responsibilities

  • Measure and document patient vital signs.
  • Maintain, measure, and document output from drainage systems (urinary, gastric, wound).
  • Bath, toilet, and groom patients.
  • Position and turn patients.
  • Recognize, document, and report physical, behavioral, and mental changes in patients.
  • Re-stock and maintain unit patient care supplies.
  • Patient and specimen transport.
  • Precept new PCT's.
  • Perform EKG's.
