About The Position

The PCT, under the direction of a registered nurse, is responsible for direct patient care considering age specific, developmental, cultural and spiritual needs. They assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe and conducive to patient/family wellbeing including concepts of relationship-based care. 5 North is a 34-bed medical inpatient unit housing medical observation, stroke, and general medicine patient populations. The unit has the capability to monitor up to 16 patients on telemetry. The staff work together as an interdisciplinary team to provide respectful, patient-centered care for a diverse patient population. 5 North offers great learning opportunities, the chance to learn and hone many skills, sets the foundation for nursing practice, and facilitates the development of critical thinking as care is provided to a variety of diagnoses.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of one year of previous direct care experience (acute or long term) or successful completion of CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
  • Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients in completing ADLs including: Bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices and with feeding and menu selection.
  • Collect and send specimens including blood and blood cultures.
  • Insert and remove peripheral IV catheters.
  • Record patient information and required data in appropriate areas in order to meet documentation requirements.
