About The Position

The PCT, under the direction of a registered nurse, is responsible for direct patient care considering age specific, developmental, cultural and spiritual needs. They assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe and conducive to patient/family wellbeing including concepts of relationship-based care. The Short Stay unit has 43 rooms (22 bays and 21 private rooms with door and bathroom). The Short Stay unit usually has adult patients greater than 18 years old and treats post-surgical and post procedural patients. Length of stay can vary, post op patients are 24-48 hours; mix of observation and inpatient status patients so some pts can stay up to a week or so.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of one year of previous direct care experience (acute or long term) or successful completion of CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
  • Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.

Responsibilities

  • Assists patient in completing ADLs including: Bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices and with feeding and menu selection.
  • Collects and sends specimens including blood and blood cultures.
  • Inserts and removes peripheral IV catheters.
  • Records patient information and required data in appropriate areas in order to meet documentation requirements.
