About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) collaborates with nurses and doctors to provide personalized care for patients in the Inpatient Trauma department. They perform essential tasks such as checking vital signs, assisting patients with daily activities like moving, dressing, and eating, collecting samples, and reporting any changes in patient condition to a nurse. The PCT also assists with paperwork and other administrative tasks, functioning similarly to a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) in some instances. They are considered essential members of the healthcare team, contributing to patient recovery and well-being.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Successful completion of one of the following: Completion of previous STNA or CNA training or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training.
  • Direct patient care experience within the last five years: Performing fundamental skills of vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) & direct patient care activities, ie Bathing, turning/positioning, toileting.
  • Currently enrolled in nursing school and have completed at least one clinical rotation.
  • Ability to handle doing many things simultaneously, even when people interrupt you, and still be nice.
  • Know how to use a computer.
  • Good at organizing things.
  • Able to talk and listen well to others.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous direct patient care experience may excuse from fundamental training (BCOP) upon completion of successful skills validation.
  • Previous hospital experience.

Responsibilities

  • Check vital signs, such as temperature, heartbeat, and breathing.
  • Help patients move around, get dressed, and eat.
  • Collect samples like urine.
  • Report any changes in a patient's condition to a nurse.
  • Perform walks, ADLs, Weighing Patients, and take Vitals.
  • Assist with paperwork and other tasks that keep the hospital running smoothly.
