About The Position

Firelands Health is seeking a Patient Care Tech for the 4-North unit, working on a PRN basis. This position offers the opportunity to live and work in Sandusky, a coastal town on Lake Erie. The role requires a minimum of 24 hours per month, including one 12-hour weekend shift. Firelands Health is committed to supporting employees in managing their personal lives while building careers. Requirements

  • Previous hospital experience preferred.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Decisive judgment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Current BLS certification required or obtained within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with delivering patient care, including obtaining vital signs, assisting with feeding, toileting, hygiene care, finger-stick blood sugar readings, maintaining skin integrity, performing EKGs, and ambulating and transferring patients.
  • Performs routine procedures such as surgical skin preps and enemas.
  • Schedules diagnostic procedures, tests, and appointments, coordinating orders with physicians, charge nurses, direct care givers, ancillary departments, and other facilities.
  • Answers call lights promptly and notifies appropriate personnel of patient needs immediately.
  • Demonstrates service excellence and assists the unit in meeting patient satisfaction goals.
  • Recognizes and acts upon significant changes in a patient's condition.
  • Collects data, reports information, and performs interventions to improve quality issues.
  • Obtains patient information/data while observing confidentiality.
  • Orders and enters charges for procedures, supplies, and equipment as applicable.
  • Reports and assists in resolving problems or concerns with the appropriate person or department.
  • Maintains flexibility, adaptability, and teamwork in a stressful environment.
  • Exhibits positive professional communication skills and guest relations.
  • Performs VS, height, weight, and visual acuity in triage.
  • Assists with sterile field setup for suturing and procedures.
  • Performs other patient care activities as trained and directed by the RN.
