About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) on the MedSurg 1 Unit at Piedmont Eastside in Snellville, GA, provides direct patient care to a general adult patient population with a wide range of illnesses and injuries. This 23-bed acute care unit handles various complexities, requiring collaboration with physicians, pharmacists, and therapy teams. The PCT will assist with patient assessments, mobility, feeding, hygiene, and documentation in the EMR. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is a team player, with opportunities for ongoing professional development. The unit is supported by a Charge Nurse, PCTs, Unit Secretary (Day), Unit Based Educator, and Clinical Manager.

Requirements

H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Preferred
No experience required
BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required

Nice To Haves

1 year of patient care experience
CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant
Certification from a Patient Care Technician program

Responsibilities

Assists with patient assessments to include collection of data regarding the patient’s physical, psychosocial, health history and document patient safety and quality initiatives.
Assists patients and healthcare team with mobility, feeding, oral care, bathing, toileting, glucose checks, patient turning to maintain skin integrity and purposeful rounding while functioning independently with treatments, equipment and procedures appropriate to the scope of clinical practice.
Documents in the EMR in a timely manner all vital signs and treatments provided.
Communicates between all care partners effectively. Ensures primary nurse is aware of any issues, changes in patient condition, or concerns.
Assists with admission and discharge process. Meets patient in the room when admitted whenever possible to obtain vital signs and assist with patient intake.
Reinforces patient education provided by licensed staff.
Responds to call lights and fall alarms.
Where applicable, if acting in the Sitter role, the Patient Care Tech must remain with the patient at all times unless relieved by an appropriate staff member.
Where applicable, if acting in the Unit Secretary role, the Patient Care Tech will act as a clerical resource for all staff to help facilitate the proper care and potential movement of the patient through the facility and beyond while managing incoming calls and visitors in a positive manner.
All other duties as assigned.
