About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) in the Med Surg Unit collaborates with nurses and doctors to provide personalized care for patients. They are responsible for checking vital signs, assisting patients with daily living activities such as moving, dressing, and eating, and collecting samples like urine. The PCT also plays a crucial role in reporting any changes in a patient's condition to a nurse. In addition to direct patient care, the PCT may also assist with administrative tasks, similar to a Hospital Unit Clerk (HUC), helping to keep the hospital running smoothly and ensuring patients receive the best possible care. PCTs are considered essential members of the healthcare team, contributing to patient recovery and well-being.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • BLS CPR certificate (can be obtained during orientation).
  • One of the following: Finished STNA, CNA, or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training.
  • One of the following: Helped care for patients in the past 5 years (like taking their temperature, bathing them, or helping them use the restroom).
  • One of the following: Are in nursing school and have finished one clinical rotation.
  • Ability to handle multitasking and interruptions while remaining pleasant.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and listening skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous hospital work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Check vital signs, such as temperature, heartbeat, and breathing.
  • Help patients move around, get dressed, and eat.
  • Collect samples like urine.
  • Report any changes in a patient's condition to a nurse.
  • Perform tasks such as walking patients, assisting with ADLs, and weighing patients.
  • Assist with paperwork and other tasks that keep the hospital running smoothly.
