About The Position
A Patient Care Technician (PCT) works collaboratively with nurses and doctors to provide essential care to patients. This role involves monitoring vital signs, assisting patients with daily activities such as moving, dressing, and eating, collecting samples, and reporting any changes in patient condition to the nurse. The PCT operates under the direct supervision of a nurse, ensuring all tasks are performed safely and correctly. In some instances, the PCT may also function as a Unit Clerk, assisting with administrative tasks that contribute to the smooth operation of the hospital and optimal patient care. PCTs are vital members of the healthcare team, dedicated to helping patients recover and regain their health.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- BLS CPR certificate (training provided during orientation if not already possessed).
- Successful completion of one of the following: Completion of previous STNA or CNA training or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training.
- Direct patient care experience within the last five years: Performing fundamental skills of vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) & direct patient care activities ie. Bathing, turning/positioning, toileting.
- Currently enrolled in nursing school and have completed at least one clinical rotation.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, even with interruptions, while maintaining a pleasant demeanor.
- Computer proficiency.
- Good organizational skills.
- Effective communication and listening skills.

Responsibilities
- Check patient vital signs such as temperature, heartbeat, and breathing.
- Assist patients with mobility, dressing, and eating.
- Collect patient samples, such as urine.
- Report any changes in a patient's condition to a nurse.
- Assist with patient walks, hygiene, and weighing patients.
- Assist with paperwork and other tasks that keep the hospital running smoothly.
