About The Position

A Patient Care Technician (PCT) works closely with nurses and doctors to provide direct patient care. This role is crucial in helping patients recover and feel better. PCTs are essential members of the healthcare team. Sometimes, the PCT might also be called a Patient Care Technician/Unit Clerk (HUC), assisting with paperwork and other tasks that keep the hospital running smoothly, which also enables patients to receive the best care possible.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • BLS CPR certificate (can be obtained during orientation)
  • Finished STNA, CNA, or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training OR
  • Helped care for patients in the past 5 years (like taking their temperature, bathing them, or helping them use the restroom) OR
  • Currently in nursing school and finished one clinical rotation
  • Ability to handle doing many things simultaneously, even when people interrupt you, and still be nice
  • Computer proficiency
  • Good organizational skills
  • Effective communication and listening skills

  • Worked in a hospital before

Responsibilities

  • Check vital signs such as temperature, heartbeat, and breathing
  • Help patients move around, get dressed, and eat
  • Collect samples like urine
  • Report any changes in a patient's condition to a nurse
  • Help with patient walks, hygiene, weighing patients, vitals
  • Assist with paperwork and other tasks that keep the hospital running smoothly (as a HUC)
