About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) in the Emergency Department at Texas Health Plan is responsible for providing assistance to patients according to the plan of care, collecting patient data, and identifying significant findings to report to the nurse. This role also assists with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, and revises patient activities of daily living based on patient/family preferences. The PCT performs technical procedures safely and proficiently, takes action to reduce or eliminate patient risk, and documents care accurately. They adapt care to reflect the patient population, incorporating cultural and religious needs, and maintain a clean and safe patient environment. The PCT anticipates patient, family, and visitor needs, taking action to meet them and performing appropriate rounding.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent Required
  • CLIAFE Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency Required
  • PCT Training Program TX CNA, NHA, NAHP, NCCT, accredited community college program or a THR approved program. Not required to maintain certification when applicable after hire. Upon Hire Required Or EMT - Emergency Medical Technician Military experience with medical training equivalent (Equivalent to EMT-B) Upon Hire Required Or Nursing student who has completed fundamentals or foreign nurse degree program Upon Hire Required Or 1 year of applicable experience in lieu of an active and approved certification. Upon Hire Required
  • BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly Required
  • CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training Maintained Annually 90 Days Required
  • Possesses organizational skills to function in a fast-paced work environment, positive interpersonal skills, and good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Nursing Students who do not complete course of study in nursing but having completed their Fundamentals Training and EMTs who do not formally retain their EMT status may continue in role if they have consistently demonstrated skills in their PCT position.

  • Keeps patient environment clean and maintains safe environment.
  • Anticipates patient/family and visitor needs and takes action to meet those needs and rounds as appropriate.
