About The Position

A Patient Care Technician (PCT) assists the RN or LPN in providing patient care and meets patients’ personal care needs as directed by the RN or LPN. The role also functions as a unit secretary. Unit secretary duties include transcribing and entering physician orders, retrieving patient information, maintaining patient data records, answering phones, taking and reporting messages, running errands, delivering and picking up specimens and supplies, and ordering and restocking unit supplies.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) or E.M.T. certification.
Documented evidence of successful completion of an accredited nursing school program.
Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

Previous Patient Care Technician experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Report for scheduled shifts on time and prepared to assume responsibilities.
Attend and participate in meetings and take responsibility for information communicated at meetings.
Adhere to corporate, regional, hospital, and departmental policies and procedures.
Assist patients, family members, physicians, visitors, and employees professionally and courteously.
Follow infection control procedures.
Follow safety policies and procedures, including use of MSDS sheets, hazardous-material procedures, and safety codes.
Demonstrate knowledge of security matters, including personal protection and protection of personnel and hospital property.
Adhere to environmental care standards.
Adapt to varied age-specific patient populations.
Assist the RN or LPN with patient care and personal care needs as directed.
Perform unit secretary tasks, including transcribing and entering physician orders, retrieving patient information, maintaining patient data records, answering phones, taking and reporting messages, running errands, delivering and picking up specimens and supplies, and ordering and restocking unit supplies.
