About The Position

A Patient Care Technician (PCT) works collaboratively with nurses and doctors to provide essential patient care. Key responsibilities include monitoring vital signs such as temperature, heartbeat, and breathing, assisting patients with daily activities like moving, dressing, and eating, collecting biological samples, and promptly reporting any changes in patient condition to the supervising nurse. The role may also involve assisting with patient walks, hygiene, weighing patients, and performing other fundamental care tasks. In some instances, the PCT may also function as a Hospital Unit Clerk (HUC), supporting administrative tasks that contribute to the smooth operation of the hospital and optimal patient care. PCTs are vital members of the healthcare team, dedicated to improving patient well-being and recovery.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • BLS CPR certificate (training provided during orientation if not already possessed).
  • Successful completion of one of the following: Completion of previous STNA or CNA training or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training.
  • Direct patient care experience within the last five years: Performing fundamental skills of vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) & direct patient care activities ie. Bathing, turning/positioning, toileting.
  • Currently enrolled in nursing school and have completed at least one clinical rotation.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, even with interruptions, while maintaining a pleasant demeanor.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and listening skills.

  • Previous hospital experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with paperwork and other tasks that keep the hospital running smoothly (as a HUC).
