The Medical Surgical Care Unit is a 28-bed unit, with 8-10 progressive care beds, focused on caring for adult medical and surgical patients with diverse disease processes. The unit fosters a culture that empowers nurses to learn, grow, and provide exceptional care, with a strong support system for various practice levels. Shared governance is integral to the unit's culture, ensuring all team members have a voice. The unit prides itself on a high-reliability team committed to safe, evidence-based practice, striving for zero harm. The leadership team uses a shared vision approach to meet the needs of team members and patients. The unit's mission is to foster collegial relationships with the inter-professional team, including medical teams, care coordination, pastoral care, nutrition, and environmental services, to create a nurturing and positive environment. The unit has achieved its second Gold Beacon award from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN). The Patient Care Technician provides direct, age-specific care to patients under the direction of an RN or licensed independent practitioner, based on medical orders and the plan of care.
