Under the general supervision of the Director, Clinical Manager, and Charge Nurse, the Patient Care Tech is responsible for providing hygienic care and assigned procedures for assigned patients based on age-specific needs. This role involves answering call lights, obtaining and recording patient vital signs, assisting with new admissions by taking vital signs, obtaining weights, assisting patients with gowns, and placing telemetry patches, leads, and telemetry boxes. The Patient Care Tech is also responsible for repositioning patients every two hours, ambulating patients as needed, and assisting with meals by preparing the area, passing food trays, and feeding patients who cannot feed themselves. Other duties include collecting and accurately recording intake and output, assembling patient charts, recording patient information on unit records, routing patient charges, entering written orders into the electronic medical record, completing related forms, scheduling procedures, adding forms to charts, and notifying licensed personnel. The position also assists with transporting patients, helps keep the department tidy by stocking and cleaning various rooms (break room, microwave, refrigerator, med room, dirty room, linen room, and equipment room), and assists with incentive spirometers. Comprehensive documentation of patient care activities such as baths, turns, oral intake and output, shaves, mouth care, peri and/or Foley care, vital signs, linen changes, shampoos, weights, percentage of meals consumed, ambulation, incentive spirometer usage, bowel movements, and patient chair time is also required.
