About The Position

The Patient Care Tech performs the functions of a Certified Nurse Assistant, Phlebotomist, EKG Technician, and Unit Secretary. The position is responsible and accountable for maintaining performance skills. It routinely works weekends, holidays, and overtime, and/or may be on an on-call or call-back status in the assigned shift. The stated position summary covers the most relevant duties and responsibilities but does not exclude other assignments.

Requirements

• Be familiar with basic patient care standards for all age groups.
• Have computer data-entry skills; Microsoft Office experience is preferred.
• Demonstrate commitment to and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct by following policies and procedures, attending required training, and immediately reporting suspected compliance issues to the Compliance Officer.
• Be a high school graduate or have a GED.
• Hold one of the following credentials: State of Texas Certified Nurse Aide certification, Medical Assistant certification, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Licensed Vocational Nurse, Paramedic, or Certified Patient Care Tech (CPCT) certification; the credential must remain current.
• Obtain CPI certification within six months of hire and keep it current. Certification must follow the AHA Healthcare Provider’s Program curriculum.
• Have and maintain current BCLS certification according to unit-specific needs. Certification must follow the AHA Healthcare Provider’s Program curriculum.

Nice To Haves

• Basic EKG skills.
• Phlebotomy skills.
• Six months or more of experience in an acute care setting.
• Graduation from a Patient Care Associate/Technician program.
