About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) on the Pulmonary Unit collaborates with nurses and doctors to provide personalized care for patients. They perform essential tasks such as checking vital signs, assisting patients with daily activities like moving, dressing, and eating, collecting samples, and reporting any changes in patient condition to a nurse. The PCT works under the supervision of a nurse and may also assist with administrative tasks similar to a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC), contributing to the smooth operation of the hospital and optimal patient care. PCTs are vital members of the healthcare team, aiding in patient recovery and well-being.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • BLS CPR certificate (can be obtained during orientation).
  • One of the following: Completed STNA, CNA, or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training; provided patient care in the past 5 years (e.g., taking temperature, bathing, assisting with restroom use); or are in nursing school and have completed one clinical rotation.
  • Ability to handle multitasking and interruptions while remaining pleasant.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and listening skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous hospital work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Check vital signs, including temperature, heart rate, and breathing rate.
  • Help patients move around, get dressed, and eat.
  • Collect samples like urine.
  • Report any changes in a patient's condition to a nurse.
  • Perform tasks such as walking patients, assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), and weighing patients.
  • Assist with paperwork and other tasks that keep the hospital running smoothly.
