About The Position
The Patient Care Tech (PCT) plays a vital role in the efficient and well-organized operations of patient care units. As a key member of the healthcare team, this individual must effectively communicate with all personnel, patients, and visitors. The PCT needs to be flexible in adapting to changes in patient volume and may be required to assist with additional clerical or patient care duties. This role involves performing basic patient care procedures under the direction of professional nursing staff, including taking vital signs, assisting with personal hygiene, feeding, and ambulating patients. The PCT is often the first point of contact for patients and their families, requiring strong communication and public relations skills. This position involves physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding work, including interaction with sick and dying patients, infectious diseases, hazardous materials, fluids, and chemicals. The PCT will follow directions from the immediate nurse in charge.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must obtain BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
- High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience.
Responsibilities
- Assist professional nursing personnel with routine duties by performing basic patient care procedures.
- Take vital signs.
- Assist patients with personal hygiene.
- Feed and ambulate patients.
- Perform other functions according to specific procedures.
- Effectively communicate with all personnel, patients, and visitors.
- Demonstrate flexibility by adjusting to changes in the volume of patients per unit.
- Assume additional clerical or patient care duties for assigned nursing areas on each shift.
- Perform in the role of a nursing assistant.
- Accept and follow direction from the immediate nurse in charge.
