About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) in Surgical Services, specifically within the OrthoSports department, performs basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision. This role assists operating room staff, including anesthesia providers, with technical aspects of patient care. The PCT is responsible for monitoring and controlling the operating room environment, cleaning and disinfecting the surgical suite and equipment, and managing soiled linen and waste. They also transport patients, equipment, instruments, specimens, and supplies, and assist patients with personal care and daily living activities. Reporting findings and changes in patient condition to nursing staff and documenting necessary records are key duties. Additionally, the PCT performs technical patient care tasks such as oxygen and pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection, EKGs, and obtaining/recording vital signs, weight, and input/output.

Requirements

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
  • Assist the operating room staff including the anesthesia providers with certain technical aspects of patient care.
  • Monitor and control the operating room environment.
  • Clean and disinfect the surgical suite and/or reusable equipment and supplies.
  • Dispose of soiled linen and solid wastes.
  • Clean anesthetizing location.
  • Care for ancillary anesthesia equipment.
  • Transport patients, equipment, instruments, specimens and supplies.
  • Lift and position patients according to practice standards.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of patient and personal safety.
  • Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
  • Report findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
  • Document necessary records.
  • Perform certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as oxygen setup, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
  • Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
