About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) in the Medical Surgical department at Texas Health Allen provides assistance to patients according to the plan of care. This role involves collecting patient data, identifying and reporting significant findings to the nurse, and assisting with admissions, transfers, and discharges. The PCT also revises patient activities of daily living based on patient/family preferences, performs technical procedures safely and proficiently, and takes action to reduce or eliminate patient risk. Documentation and order entry are also key responsibilities. The role requires adapting care to reflect patient population and incorporating cultural/religious needs and beliefs into care delivery, in collaboration with the nurse. Maintaining a clean and safe patient environment, anticipating patient/family needs, and performing appropriate rounding are also expected. The Medical Surgical Department offers self-scheduling, opportunities for educational and career growth, and operates in a fast-paced environment with a robust Unit Based Council and engaged leadership team. The professional PCT exhibits an understanding of basic human needs.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent Required
  • PCT Training Program TX CNA, NHA, NAHP, NCCT, accredited community college program or a THR approved program. Not required to maintain certification when applicable after hire. Upon Hire Required OR EMT - Emergency Medical Technician Military experience with medical training equivalent (Equivalent to EMT-B) Upon Hire Required OR Nursing student who has completed fundamentals or foreign nurse degree program Upon Hire Required OR 1 year of applicable experience in lieu of an active and approved certification. Upon Hire Required
  • BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly Required
  • CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training Maintained Annually 90 Days Required
  • Possesses organizational skills to function in a fast paced work environment, positive interpersonal skills, and good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Nursing Students who do not complete course of study in nursing but having completed their Fundamentals Training and EMTs who do not formally retain their EMT status may continue in role if they have consistently demonstrated skills in their PCT position.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration/consultation with the nurse, adapts care to reflect patient population.
  • In collaboration/consultation with nurse, incorporates cultural/religious needs and beliefs into delivery of care.
  • Keeps patient environment clean and maintains safe environment.
  • Anticipates patient/family and visitor needs and takes action to meet those needs and rounds as appropriate.
