The Patient Care Technician provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the RN or licensed independent practitioner. This role involves providing safe and direct care, monitoring patient conditions, and updating the healthcare team. The technician will provide direct and indirect care to patients, ensuring their comfort, personal hygiene, and safety needs are met in accordance with nursing and medical plans of care and VCUHS policies. A key responsibility is maintaining a safe, clean, and stocked clinical environment. The role also includes managing supplies, educational materials, and equipment to promote quality patient care outcomes. Contributing to the patient experience involves accurately identifying patients, observing safety goals, and reporting any patient responses or incidents to the appropriate personnel. The technician will obtain and record patient information, including vital signs, and collect specimens for diagnostic tests. Attendance at mandatory in-services and trainings, adherence to online training, and participation in patient safety initiatives are also required. Establishing and maintaining courteous and effective rapport with patients, visitors, co-workers, and the healthcare team is essential, along with demonstrating sensitivity and responsiveness to their needs.
