This position assists with the admission process by taking initial vital signs, measurements, and weights, orienting patients and families to the unit, hospital facilities, and services, and documenting on appropriate forms per unit standards. The Patient Care Tech delivers patient care promptly, accurately, and according to unit standards, policies, and procedures, as well as the patient’s plan of care. They contribute relevant and appropriate information to the RN, maintain confidentiality of patient-related issues, and support the Patient Bill of Rights. The role involves participating in meetings, reinforcing patient’s educational needs, documenting accordingly, and providing emotional support to patients and families. Additionally, the position assists physicians/providers and nurses with procedures, performs EKGs, monitors and records patient intake and output, and reports changes in patient status to the RN. The Patient Care Tech assists patients with routine activities of daily living, answers call lights promptly, and transports patients to various departments. They are also responsible for stocking and ordering supplies, cleaning equipment, and maintaining a clean patient area. The role includes providing and documenting patient treatments within the scope of practice, attending unit-related in-services and meetings, and participating in Performance Improvement initiatives. Collaboration with others to achieve unit and organizational goals, utilizing the proper chain of command, and performing additional related duties as assigned are also key aspects of this role. All activities are conducted in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and hospital policies and procedures, including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.
