About The Position

The In-Center Hemodialysis Patient Care Technician provides safe, compassionate, and high-quality direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse while supporting DCC's mission of clinical excellence, patient safety, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Must possess a minimum of High School diploma or GED
  • Current CCHT, Bonent or State required certificate if experienced
  • Current CPR card if experienced or within 3 weeks of hire date
  • Must be PC proficient and able to thrive in a fast-paced setting; experience in Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Word and Excel a must
  • Good presentation & communication skills
  • Must be productive & resourceful with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Must be a self-starter who can work independently yet function in a highly collaborative, fast-paced team environment.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines effectively
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • 1 or more years’ experience as a certified Patient Care Technician preferred
  • CCHT, Bonent or State required certificate within 18 months per CMS regulations

Responsibilities

  • Entering prescribed treatment into the dialysis machine, setting up dialysis machines, dismantling dialysis machines after treatment is completed, performing chemical disinfection of dialysis machines, and recording.
  • Utilizes DCC Labor Logic to optimize staffing, labor productivity, scheduling efficiency, overtime management, and patient treatment scheduling while maintaining safe staffing standards.
  • Completes assigned Daily Opening and Closing Procedures
  • Observing dialysis machines and RO water system for correct functioning, responding to visual and audible alarms, and making appropriate adjustments throughout the dialysis treatment to ensure patient safety.
  • Assists in training of applicable direct patient care staff on appropriate programs under the supervision of a nurse.
  • Participating in DCC Missed Treatment Intervention initiatives by promptly notifying the interdisciplinary team of missed or shortened treatments.
  • Monitors vital signs during treatment and takes patient vitals pre- and post-dialysis; blood pressure, temperature, weight, and documents on the Hemodialysis Treatment Record
  • Perform vascular access evaluation pre-treatment and report unusual findings to the RN immediately.
  • Perform cannulation of the patient’s vascular access or perform catheter care, as allowed by state law.
  • Obtain hemostasis and apply appropriate dressings.
  • Assists with chlorine testing when assigned.
  • Adheres to all facility policies, procedures, and protocols, and participates in all required staff meetings.
  • Collects patient data, monitors, and document status of vascular accesses, and patient observations.
  • Collecting or obtaining blood samples and blood culture specimens, and prepares package for shipping.
  • Immediately reports abnormal findings or a change in status to the assigned RN for further evaluation.
  • Communicates all emergencies, patient life-threatening complications, and related situations to the attention of the RN for further instruction.
  • Maintains compliance with safety and infection prevention measures, ensuring patient safety.
  • Successfully completes all DCC University training modules.
  • Maintains annual competency validation.
  • Participates in mandatory continuing education
  • Complete PCT Water Quality Facility Training
  • Reinforces education with patients and family members on all aspects of End Stage Renal Disease.
  • Assists in the management of inventory supplies.
  • Ability to work independently under RN supervision.
  • You may be required to float to other facilities if needed and work past scheduled hours. Staff scheduled hours are based on the needs of the facility and are subject to change.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
  • Responsible for supporting the values and customer service standards of DCC.
  • Accountable for outstanding customer service to all staff, clients and vendors
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships through effective and timely communication.
  • Initiates action to respond, resolve and follow up regarding customer service issues with all customers in a timely manner.
  • Support DCC initiatives.
