About The Position

Under the direct supervision of an RN or his/her designee, the Patient Care Technician will assist the RN and MD in providing direct care to patients according to age specific needs. Patient types include neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and older adult. Key areas of responsibility include modeling quality patient/customer service by demonstrating a willingness to serve all customers at all times, maintaining awareness of patient needs while utilizing tact, discretion, and compassion in responding to those needs, assisting patients with activities of daily living and recording in the medical record, collaborating with the nursing team to ambulate, transfer, and/or turn patients as appropriate and document, always maintaining proper body mechanics, obtaining and recording vital signs, blood glucose, EKGs, and patient intake/output while reporting any abnormal findings to the Registered Nurse, performing basic therapeutic measures under the direction of the Registered Nurse to assist in achieving patient care outcomes, monitoring cardiac rhythms and reporting changes to the appropriate Registered Nurse as they occur, documenting strip interpretation per unit protocol, accurately performing phlebotomy for the collection of blood and blood cultures, accurately collecting and obtaining specimens (sputum, urine, stool), performing visual acuity, assisting MD with surgical procedures (i.e. set-up, dressing applications), properly fitting crutches and reviewing/instructing patient in crutch walking, applying orthopedic devices (i.e. sling, write splint, knee immobilizer), performing daily equipment checks, and performing other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School or equivalency
  • Certified Nurses Aid Certificate, EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) with clinical experience required, Nursing Student OR Successful completion of Windham PCT 3 boot-camp
  • BLS Certification required or competition within the first three months of employment.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and computer skills preferred
  • Knowledge of arrhythmia detection and phlebotomy preferred
