The Patient Care Technician provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the RN or licensed independent practitioner. This role involves providing safe and direct care to patients in their assigned unit, monitoring their conditions, and updating the healthcare team. The technician will provide direct and indirect care to patients with and without medical/surgical complications, ensuring their comfort, personal hygiene, and safety needs are met. Care must be provided in accordance with nursing and medical plans of care and VCUHS policy and procedure. The role also includes maintaining a safe, clean, and stocked environment, managing supplies, and contributing to a positive patient experience by identifying patients, observing safety goals, and reporting any changes or incidents to the appropriate personnel. The technician will obtain and record patient information, assist with specimen collection, attend mandatory training, and ensure patient safety initiatives are followed. Establishing and maintaining courteous and effective rapport with patients, visitors, and colleagues is essential. The position also involves performing other duties as assigned.
