The Patient Care Technician provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the RN or licensed independent practitioner. This role is part of the Earn to Learn program and requires the individual to be a Rappahannock Community College nursing student. The technician will provide safe and direct care, monitor patient conditions, and ensure patient comfort, hygiene, and safety needs are met in accordance with nursing and medical plans of care. Responsibilities include maintaining a safe and clean environment, managing supplies, contributing to the patient experience by adhering to safety goals, and accurately identifying patients. The role also involves obtaining and recording patient information, collecting specimens, attending mandatory training, and ensuring patient safety initiatives are followed. Establishing and maintaining courteous and effective rapport with patients, visitors, and staff is crucial. The position serves a diverse patient population including neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
