About The Position

The Patient Care Tech, Cardiac Care Unit is a full-time night position. The schedule involves 3 x 12-hour shifts per week (7pm-7am) and every other weekend requirement. Hospital experience is highly preferred. This 18-bed cardiac unit specializes in the care of both cardiac and vascular patients. The typical patient population includes patients with diagnoses such as chest pain, cardiac dysrhythmias, CHF exacerbation, hypertensive emergency, pulmonary embolism and/or DVT, and patients who have had AAA repair and carotid endarterectomy. Our unit is an intermediate/step-down unit, and our nursing staff work closely with both our cardiology and vascular teams to ensure exceptional care for our patients. Requirements

H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required
No experience required
BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required

Nice To Haves

1 year of patient care experience Preferred
CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant Preferred
Certification from a Patient Care Technician program Preferred

Responsibilities

Assists with patient assessments to include collection of data regarding the patient’s physical, psychosocial, health history and document patient safety and quality initiatives.
Assists patients and healthcare team with mobility, feeding, oral care, bathing, toileting, glucose checks, patient turning to maintain skin integrity and purposeful rounding while functioning independently with treatments, equipment and procedures appropriate to the scope of clinical practice.
Documents in the EMR in a timely manner all vital signs and treatments provided.
Communicates between all care partners effectively. Ensures primary nurse is aware of any issues, changes in patient condition, or concerns.
Assists with admission and discharge process. Meets patient in the room when admitted whenever possible to obtain vital signs and assist with patient intake.
Reinforces patient education provided by licensed staff.
Responds to call lights and fall alarms.
Where applicable, if acting in the Sitter role, the Patient Care Tech must remain with the patient at all times unless relieved by an appropriate staff member.
Where applicable, if acting in the Unit Secretary role, the Patient Care Tech will act as a clerical resource for all staff to help facilitate the proper care and potential movement of the patient through the facility and beyond while managing incoming calls and visitors in a positive manner.
All other duties as assigned.
