About The Position

The Patient Care Specialist supports clinical operations under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager in an ambulatory healthcare setting. This role requires a foundational understanding of nursing principles and practices. Responsibilities include assisting professional nurses with various aspects of patient care, administering injections, performing EKGs, collecting specimens, and supporting special procedures and general medical workups. The Patient Care Specialist also performs related non-professional nursing and clerical duties as needed to ensure efficient patient care delivery.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of accepted nursing and/or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) standards, practices, and scope of care
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements and guidelines, including patient confidentiality and data security standards
  • Knowledge of applicable university, college, departmental, and clinical policies and procedures
  • Ability to effectively utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems to support daily clinical and administrative functions
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients, providers, supervisors, and colleagues, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to communicate effectively via telephone with pharmacies, healthcare providers, and community agencies
  • Ability to accurately assess and communicate patient needs and concerns to providers
  • Ability to handle sensitive patient information with discretion and maintain strict confidentiality
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a healthcare team
  • Ability to maintain professionalism at all times and represent the clinic in a positive manner
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards and ensure accuracy in all tasks
  • Ability to remain calm, composed, and effective in emergency or high-pressure situations
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to meet workload demands
  • High school diploma
  • CMA/RMA (AAMA certification) OR LPN
  • Current CPR card
